Vocal Clarity Blueprint

Broadcast-quality audio processing guide for Audacity

Before You Record: Step Zero

Hit record and remain completely silent for 4 to 8 seconds. This creates a "Noise Profile" that is essential for removing background hiss and AC hum later.

Phase 1
Noise Reduction

Highlight the silence. Go to Effect > Noise Removal > Noise Reduction and click "Get Noise Profile". Then select everything (Ctrl+A), return to the menu, and click OK.

Phase 2
Tone Optimization

Open Effect > EQ and Filters > Filter Curve EQ. Go to Factory Presets and apply Bass Boost. Open it once more and apply Treble Boost for high-end clarity.

Phase 3
Low Roll-off

Inside Filter Curve EQ, select Factory Presets > Low roll-off for speech. This eliminates low-end rumble and makes the vocal frequency tighter.

Phase 4
Compression

Go to Effect > Volume & Compression > Compressor. Apply the default settings to smooth out the difference between your loudest and quietest words.

Phase 5
Final Normalization

Go to Effect > Volume & Compression > Normalize. Set Peak Amplitude to 0.0 dB and Apply. This pushes your volume to the professional standard.
